AT-KABUL: More than 10,000 refugee children have disappeared after arriving in Europe, the European Union Police Intelligence Unit (Europol) said Monday.
The Europol have warned the criminal gangs’ sexual exploitation of these children.
The statistics released by the British newspapers said that the children had been missing for 18 to 24 months. The Europol have confirmed the missing and have said that about 5,000 teenagers have disappeared only in Italy.
The chief of staff for the Europol Brian Donald said that the children had gone missing after being registered as asylum seekers in the system.
Donald has said that the Europol did not know where these children were and what they were doing.
A charity organization of the United Kingdom has reportedly saved at least 26,000 refugee children who entered Europe in 2015. It has recorded multiple cases of sexual abuse and violence. The organization has called on the British government to resettle 3,000 of the children as soon as possible.
More than one million refugees went to European countries in 2015. Afghans make up the second largest group behind Syrians.
