KABUL: Pakistani officials said 11 soldiers were killed and three others injured in an armed attack by religious militants early on Tuesday in the South Waziristan tribal district of Barah.
Tehrek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) movement — also known as the Pakistani Taliban — claimed responsibility for the attack, claiming that 18 soldiers were killed. On August 19, five soldiers were killed in an armed attack that the TTP also claimed responsibility for. The group is the Sunni Islamist nationalist and pro-Pashtun movement founded in the 1990s that ruled most of Afghanistan from 1996 until October 2001.
