AT-KABUL: At least 12 Taliban militants were killed and five others injured as Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) widens crackdowns on the insurgents.
Ministry of Defense in a media statement on Tuesday said that Afghan National Army (ANA), the National Directorate of Security (NDS) and Afghan National Police (ANP) launched joint operations in Nangarhar, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Faryab and Helmand provinces. The militants were creating challenges for the citizens and challenged writ of the government in these provinces.
The ministry said that at least 12 insurgents were killed, five injured and four others were detained by security forces during the crackdowns in the past 24 hours.
Security forces have also seized several weapons and hundreds of landmines. The militants wanted to plant the landmines along the roadsides. Civilians are the worst victims of the landmine blasts.
The ministry also confirmed that three ANA soldiers were “martyred” during the counter-terrorism operations.
In another statement the 201st ‘Selab’ Corps of the ANA said that six Daesh fighters were killed in a drone strike in Achin district of Nangarhar province.
