KABUL: Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) on Sunday said it has detained 1,287 suspect of drug runners during anti-narcotics crackdown carried out by Counter Narcotics Police (CNP) in 2019.
37 female and three Iranian citizens is among the detainees, said CJTF Spokesman, Khalid Moahid. “They are handed over to CJTF for further prosecution.”
Speaking at a press conference in Kabul, he said that out of the 1,287 apprehended drug dealers, 205 of them, 13 women among them, had planned to smuggle drugs through Hamid Karzai International Airport to India and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
At the same period, the primary court of CJTF has convicted 1,771 drug smugglers, including 37 women, one foreign citizen and 84 government employees, to three months-30 years prison, he added.
Moreover, appeal court also convicted 905 drug runners to different period of prison.
CNP discovered and confiscated 2449kg heroin, 1421kg morphine, 30737kg opium, 106780kg hashish, 1165kg crystal and 2540594 liters of alcoholic beverages in connection to the abovementioned cases, he noted.
Kabul and Nangarhar provinces with having high cases stand in first and second positions, he underlined.
