KABUL: At least 13 civilians were killed in two separate roadside bomb blasts in the provinces of Helmand in the south and Ghor in the west.
The ministry of defense said in a statement that a passenger bus hit a roadside mine in Police District 7 of Lashkar Gah, the capital city of Helmand. According to the statement, nine civilians lost their lives in the incident.
Provincial Governor’s Spokesman, Omar Zwak said that the victims included children and women. Two children and a woman were wounded in the incident, he said, adding that they were in good health condition.
He blamed the Taliban for the attack, but the group denied having hand in the incident.
In a similar incident, four civilians were killed in the western province of Ghor. Deputy Governor, Habibulah Ramish said that the incident occurred in Kharistan area of Feroz Koh, the provincial capital. According to him, the blast happened after a motorbike carrying the civilians hi the bomb. The victims included four members of family; the couples with two children.
The Afghanistan Independent Human Right Commission expressed concerns over civilians’ casualties, saying that civilians’ killing should be stopped.
The commission said in a statement that it had always called on the Taliban to stop planting the roadside bombs that often cause civilian casualties.
