AT-KABUL: At least 13 Afghan police officers were killed after Taliban fighters attacked their checkpoint in northern Kunduz province early Sunday, officials said.
“Armed Taliban attacked a checkpoint in Khanabad-Kunduz highway at around 3:00am which as result, 13 police officers were killed,” said Khanabad district chief, Hayatullah Amiri.
He said that the clash between Afghan police and Taliban fighters was continued for around two hours in the area.
One police survived the incident from the check post, he added.
Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, the group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that their fighter attacked the check post in Khanabad district and get the control of the check post after killing commander and soldiers.
