The airstrike was conducted to target the Taliban after the militants engaged in clashes with the security forces, the source said, adding that the security forces targeted a residence, where, they thought that the militants were gathered. It is yet to be clarified whether the attack was conducted by the Afghan security forces or their foreign allies.
The victims are purportedly members of a family, the source said.
But Khashrod District Governor Jalil Watandost said that the dead were Taliban affiliated people. He refused to provide further information in regards.
As insecurity has recently been on the rise, the civilians suffer a great number of casualties on daily bases. In a recent interview with the CNN Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said that more than 40,000 civilians were killed since 2015.
