AT-KABUL:At least 14 Nepalese citizens working for a security company were killed, nine people including five Nepalese and four Afghan civilians were injured on Monday morning when a suicide bomber targeted a mini bus carrying the Nepalese guards in Kabul city, officials said.
The attacker rammed into the minibus in PD9 in Banayee area at around 6:00 am.
“Initial reports say that 14 have been killed and nine wounded,” said Seddiq Seddiqi, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior.
A security source on condition of anonymity told Afghanistan Times the target was Nepalese citizens, working as security guards for foreign offices in capital Kabul.
“Most of the casualties are Nepalese,” he said.
Nearby shops and houses sustain financial losses in the incident.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Interior said that bomber targeted a foreign company bus which killed 14 Nepali citizens employed by the company.
It blamed Taliban for the attack. “The insurgents conduct terrorist attacks in the cities killing innocent people.”
Taliban claimed responsibility for Monday’s attack, saying foreigners were the target.
Canadian Embassy on twitter confirmed that today’s “cowardly” attack targeted their security company staffs.
Parliament speaker Abdul Raouf Ebrahimi urged security forces to exert utmost efforts to reinforce security in a better condition in order do not be witness of such bloody incident.

This was the first suicide attack by armed Taliban during the holy month of Ramadan in capital Kabul which started two weeks back.
Interior Ministry said Taliban after suffering heavy casualties and setbacks on battlefield from the Afghan security forces in recent operations now trying to cover their defeats by launching terrorist attacks in cities, which mostly targets civilians.
