AT-KABUL: At least 143 Taliban fighters were killed and 17 others wounded during airstrike in Northern Faryab province Monday night.
“Afghan forces conducted airstrike operations in Kohistan, Qaisar and Sherin Tagab districts of Northern Faryab, which resulted at killing of 143 Taliban rebels and wounding of 17 others in Faryab,” said a statement issued by Ministry of Defense.
The statement said that nine Taliban commander and group leaders were among killed people as well.
The killed commanders named Mullah Abdul Rahim, Mullah Yusof Zabih, Mullah Salam Nestan, Sayed Ismail, Mullah Rohullah, Qari Manan, Jahan Gir, Qari Dost Mohammad Qari Abdul Ghafor, added statement.
Taliban group leaders Sebghatullah, Besmillah, and Sardar Husain are also among wounded insurgents, noted statement.
It added that army commandos prepared to run operation to retake Kohistan district.
Kohistanat district of Northern Faryab province has fallen to Taliban hand after hours of clashes on Sunday morning. Afghan forces retreated from the district in order to prevent civilian casualties this district fall down to Taliban, MoD claimed.
