AT-KABUL: At least 15 army cadets were killed and four others received injures after a suicide bomber targeted their vehicle near a military academy in Kabul, security official said on Saturday.
Spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Dawlat Waziri said the suicide attack was occurred at 03:00pm near the entrance of Marshal Fahim Military Academy in west part of Kabul.
Suicide bomber targeted a mini-bus, carrying soldiers and military officers who were attending short-term course in the academy, the ministry said in a statement, adding that the blast was carried out by a walking suicide bomber.
“All the killed and wounded are army members, and the wounded soldiers rapidly taken to hospital.
President Ashraf Ghani strongly condemned suicide attack against cadets in Kabul.
“In recent days, terrorists and their supporters have been ‘isolated from all walks of life’, also defeated in all battlefields. In a bid to create ‘a climate of intimidation’ by order of foreigners, terrorists targeted mosques and civilians in different parts of the country,” President Ghani was quoted as saying in a statement issued by his office.
Taliban insurgents claimed responsibility for the attack.
Moreover, this is the second deadliest incident after more than 50 worshipers were killed and dozens others wounded in suicide bombing at the Imam Zaman mosque in Dasht-e-Barchi of Kabul city on Friday.
In the past one week security forces received huge casualties in coward attacks carried out by insurgents. Dozens of security forces killed and wounded in Paktia and Kandahar provinces.
The Resolute Support in Afghanistan condemned today’s (Saturday) suicide attack, terming an attack on the future of Afghanistan and Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF).
“This attack in Kabul shows the insurgents are desperate and cannot win against (ANDSF) on the battlefield,” the Resolute Support twitted.
Furthermore, to show support for the Afghan security forces, Gen. John Nicholson, commander of US forces in Afghanistan said the US and NATO was committed to helping the Afghan security forces.
“The brave men and men of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces and the people of Afghanistan have my personal assurance that we remain committed to our Afghan partners and our mission in Afghanistan. The United States and the NATO-led Resolute Support are firm in our resolve to create a secure, stable, and peaceful Afghanistan,” he said on Friday via a statement.
“All too often it is clear that the enemies of Afghanistan offer nothing for the future of this beautiful country and its people. Our mission is to stand with the Afghan security forces and Afghan people, and to support them in the fight against terrorism, our common enemy. We will carry out that mission and we will remain steadfast.”
