AT-KABUL: At least 15 people were killed and 15 others wounded on Tuesday after terrorists attacked a government compound in eastern Jalalabad city with dozens trapped inside, a provincial official said.
“Three terrorists stormed the provincial Refugee and Repatriation Office in Jalalabad at around 12:00, killing at least fifteen people and wounding fifteen others. One of the assailants carried out a car bombing attack in front of the office and two others stormed inside,” Nangarhar Governor Spokesman Attaullah Khogiani told Afghanistan Times.
The assailants attacked the refugee office as a meeting of officials of the Refugee and Repatriation Office and partner organizations was taking place in the compound. “Shortly after the attack, Afghan security forces took to the area and gunned down the attackers after around five hours of clashes.
Security forces evacuated representatives of partner organizations along with the head and some staff of Refugee and Repatriation Office, he added.
Afghan forces continued the counterattack and used ultimate caution to avoid causing harm to possible hostages that could still be stranded in the compound.
No armed group claimed responsibility for the attack.
