AT News Report-KABUL: In the deadliest of a string of attacks, Taliban militants martyred as many as 18 Afghan soldiers in western Farah province, said officials.
Ministry of Defense Spokesman Dawlat Waziri said 18 army soldiers embraced martyrdom after clashes broke out between the Taliban militants and army forces in Farah. He said the clashes occurred at around 03:00am local time in Shakhwasat area in Bala Bolok district.
Waziri said that two soldiers were also wounded in the clashes. He went on to say that the Taliban also incurred heavy casualties, but refused to comment more.
Taliban in a statement also confirmed their raids on army posts in western Farah province.
However, a Farah provincial council official, Dadullah Qani putted the number of Afghan soldiers to 20 martyred. He also talked about Taliban’s casualties, saying 12 Taliban insurgents were killed in fighting.
According to him, the Taliban insurgents took two soldiers along with their weapons with them.
