AT News Report-KABUL: Two cases of poliomyelitis—a crippling and potentially deadly infectious disease have been registered in eastern Kunar and southern Kandahar province, Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said on Friday.
In a statement, the MoPH said the polio cases were reported from Shah Wali Kot district of Kandahar and Ghazi Abad district of eastern Kunar provinces.
The statement said that the cases were registered in families that were in denial to the anti-polio vaccination and never allowed any health volunteers to vaccinate their children.
According to the statement, five cases of polio have been detected in the country this year.
In the meantime, anti-polio campaign is underway during which around a million children under five years of age would be vaccinated.
On the other side, sources revealed that the two children who recently suffered from polio were not vaccinated, as any polio team did not visit their village and families. Free and independent inquiry must be conducted into the matter, because Afghan lives matters.
