AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The US forces have carried out a drone strike in Kurram Agency of FATA that killed at least 20 Haqqani network insurgents near the Durand Line, media reports said on Tuesday.
Local authorities told Pakistani media outlets that the drone’s strike took place near the Durand Line on Monday afternoon when it fired four missiles on a house.
At least 20 rebels were killed. The security personnel initially found five bodies inside the house and 15 others were discovered later on.
According to local residents the target of the attack was a Haqqani Network commander named Abobakr, who was killed along with accomplices in the drone attack.
The attack comes days after a US-Canadian family couple was freed during an operation by Pakistani forces after being tracked by the US drone.
It was the first major attack involving a US drone across the border after the announcement of Donald Trump’s new strategy for South Asia. It is believed the President Trump would allow a continued chain of drone strikes and carpet bombardment against the safe sanctuaries of terrorist outfits in FATA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan.
