AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: As many as 20 insurgents have been killed and 40 others sustained injuries during security forces offensive in northern Sar-i-Pul province, said local officials on Saturday.
Provincial police Chief, Abdul Qayoum Baqizoy said that the operation was launched a week ago in Aqso, Adrang, Balghali, Lati, Qal-e-Sokhta and Dar-e-Sultan areas of the province. Winding up the operation successfully on Saturday, the security forces inflicted heavy casualties on insurgents.
He said that 20 militants were killed and 40 others wounded during the week-long military offensive. He did not provide details regarding the security forces casualties.
The police chief furthered that a number of villages have been cleared of the insurgents.
However, an official from the provincial council claimed that Laghman and Sokhta villages are still insecure and not cleared of the militants. Sar-i-Pul is among the insecure provinces, where anti-government militants carry their attacks usually against the security forces and civilians.
