KABUL: 202 people both civilians and security forces have been killed and injured after the US and Taliban signed a peace agreement on February 29 that encourages the militants to reduce violence, the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) said.
The commission said Tuesday in a report that government’s civil employees, religious scholars and tribal elders were among the victims of continuing violence by Taliban who intensified attacks after the US peace deal in many cities and provinces.
“83 have been killed and 119 injured including eight women and eight children killed and 15 women and 16 children wounded.”
The report blamed 50 per cent of the casualties on Taliban fighters, saying the rest were carried out by Daesh terrorist group or unknown people.
It said Taliban took hostage 35 civilians in the past 45 days that the commission did not know about their fate.
Taliban sources were not immediately available to comment.
The government had earlier said that 30 civilians were killed by Taliban in the past one week.
