AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: At least 22 militants loyal to the Islamic State (IS) aka Daesh terrorist group have been killed in an airstrike attacks in eastern Nangarhar province, provincial official said on Saturday.
Provincial governor spokesman, Attaullah Khogiani said that airstrikes targeted Daesh hideouts in Milo area of Nazian district on Friday evening, leaving 22 Daesh militants dead.
Two group commanders named Zabihullah alias Shino and Daz Gul were among those killed in the raids, he added.
It is worth mentioning that Nangarhar is among the relatively calm provinces in eastern Afghanistan but the anti-government armed militant groups have recently increased their insurgency activities in some parts of the province during the recent years. Both, Afghan and US forces regular carry out strikes against Daesh militants in the province. Security officials said that during the last year, Daesh group suffered significant casualties, forcing the terrorist group into a very bad situation.
According to statistics provided by security department, more than 1,900 Daesh fighters were killed and the group’s activities were also limited to parts of Nangarhar province.
