AT-KABUL: Afghan security forces have killed 24 insurgents and injured several others during operations against anti-state elements in Nangarhar and Ghazni provinces.
In a media statement issued here on Saturday, the 201st Silab Military Corps said that fourteen armed Taliban fighters were killed and five others wounded in clearance operation in Nangarhar province. Two Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were also injured in the gunfight.
Spokesman to Ghazni’s governor, Shafiq Nang, said that 10 rebels were killed and seven injured in a mid-night clash in Ab Band district of the province.
He said that three Pakistani insurgents were among the dead. The spokesman said that no security personnel was injured or killed.
However, the Taliban’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed that three ANA soldiers were killed in the clashes. The militant group often claims inflicting casualties on security forces to hit morale of public.
Meanwhile, unknown armed men killed two people in separate incidents in Kandahar province. Provincial officials said that the killed persons were civilians.
