AT-KABUL: The task force of the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission said Friday it has removed 25 candidates of the parliamentary elections from the primary ballot, because of their links with illegal armed groups and lacked the credentials to justify running as parliamentarians.
The committee is assigned to probe candidates’ links with irresponsible armed groups and ended its probe on candidates late on Thursday night.
“We have notified seven other possible candidates and warned 27 others about their removal from the candidates’ list if their involvement with illegal gunmen is proved.
Faiz said the 25 candidates can file their objections to the Electoral Complaints Commission on Friday and Saturday.
The Electoral Complaints Commission has received 500 complaints on possible parliamentary candidates.
Officials from Integrity Watch Afghanistan (IWA) have welcomed the move by the IECC’s special committee to crackdown on controversial candidates.
In addition, a number of political parties and political movements have said that the IECC has dealt politically with some of the candidates.
The IECC is expected to disqualify candidates who are involved in security issues, coordinated crimes, drug smuggling, and misuse of public and private assets.
