AT-KABUL: The Taliban insurgents have sustained huge casualties during operation carried out by police, army, commando, intelligence and the air force in the two districts of the eastern Laghman province, an official said on Friday.
“At least 25 Taliban insurgents including their two commanders identified as Khaled, and Mohabbat were killed in Alisheng and Alingar districts in the past 48-hour,” provincial governor spokesman, Sarhadi Zwak said. In addition to that 32 militant were also received injures in the operation.
“Two security forces were killed and a number injured during the operation,” he said, without giving an exact number of wounded.
He furthered, “situation in Mehtarlam the capital city, and in Alisheng and Alingar districts are now calm and under control of security forces.
In a briefing on Thursday, the provincial governor, told newsmen that Afghan security frustrated Taliban’s plan to capture two districts of eastern Laghman province.
“The enemies attempted to capture some security posts in Alingar and Alisheng districts in order to block roads, but failed, as the Afghan security forces had pushed them back with killing and wounding 40 insurgents.
“Our security forces have a high morale and strong determination and they won’t hesitate from sacrificing their lives in the defense of their motherland.”
In that press briefing, 201st Selab Military Corps commander Lt. Gen. Mohammad Zaman Waziri said that 21 insurgents were killed and another 13 were injured during operation.
He furthered, “we tried to avoid civilian casualties during clashes, and fortunately no civilian has suffered casualties in the operation carried out in the two districts.
