KABUL: At least 254 Taliban were killed and 97 others wounded in operations conducted by the Afghan security forces in different provinces across the country, the defense ministry said on Sunday.
The Afghan security force conducted operations and counter attacks against Taliban militants in Ghazni, Kandahar, Herat, Farah, Jawzjan, Balkh, Samangan, Helmand, Takhar, Kunduz, Kabul and Kapisa provinces, in which 254 insurgents were killed and 97 others wounded, the ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement, 13 rounds of mines planted by Taliban to target civilians and security forces were discovered and defused.
This comes as violence has been intensified across the country, with each of the warring side claims inflecting heavy causalities on its opposition.
