AT-Kabul: At least 26 Afghan National Army were killed and 13 others received injures in an attack carried out by the Taliban insurgents in southern Kandahar province, security officials said on Wednesday.
“26 Afghan soldiers killed and 13 others wounded after the Taliban massively attacked Karzialai military base in Khakriz district of Kandahar province last night (Tuesday night,” Spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Gen. Dawlat Waziri told Afghanistan Times.
Moreover, the spokesman said that at least 80 Taliban insurgents were killed and wounded in retaliation respond by the Afghan security forces.
Confirming the incident, Deputy Spokesman for Ministry of Defense, Mohammad Radmanish said that delegation has been sent to the district to have inquiry on the incident. “Situation is under control now. No fighting at the moment.”
However, the Taliban insurgent in statement confirmed the attack on Karzialai camp, claiming to have killed 74 army and number of weapons and vehicles were also destroyed.
Taliban insurgents have launched a number of offensives in Kandahar and other parts of the country, as well as deadly attacks in Kabul. As part of their spring offensive, in April over 120 Afghan soldiers were killed by the Taliban attack in their base outside Mazar-i-Sharif.
