AT-KABUL: The Afghan security forces have killed at least 27 Taliban insurgents including their three key leaders in a clearing military operation carried out in the Raghistan district of northeastern Badakhshan province, local provincial official said on Wednesday.
“Taliban commanders Mawlavi Nasir Ahmad Farooqi, Fasihullah Sultani and Mullah Samiullah Shamil, were killed in the operation,” provincial governor spokesman Ahmad Navid Ferotan said.
In addition to that, 32 insurgents were wounded during the ‘Kokcha 07’ clearance operation, he said.
Two security forces were also killed and six others received injuries during the offensive, he said.
“Local residents were not harmed during the operation.”
This comes as provincial governor Faisal Begzad had earlier said that the Afghan security forces started a massive military operation in the same district in order to eliminate insurgents in the area.
He said that large-scale military operation was conducted in the district where security forces took control of several areas. “The enemy is fleeing.”
Moreover, several provincial officials, including civil activities called on the government to maintain peace and stability in the areas once cleared of insurgents.
