KABUL: At least 284 militants were killed and 205 were wounded since Friday after Afghan forces pounded the Taliban sanctuaries across Afghanistan.
Afghan security forces staged counterassaults and engaged in clashes with the Taliban in Nangarhar, Ghazni, Khost, Maidan Wardak, Kandahar, Jawzjan, Sar-e-Pul, Samangan, Balkh, Helmand, Takhar and Kabul provinces, said the Ministry of Defense on Saturday.
Security forces have killed at least 284 Taliban militants in the raids and inflicted injuries upon 205 others. They have also destroyed an arsenal of weapons and ammunition of the Taliban.
Moreover, 15 rounds of mines planted by Taliban to target civilians and security forces in different provinces were discovered and defused by Afghan security forces, the ministry said.
