KABUL: The Courts of Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) on Tuesday said it has sentenced 29 drug traffickers to short and long incarceration in the past one week.
CJTF in a statement said the primary and appeal courts have convicted 29 smugglers from two to 16 years’ imprisonment.
Counter Narcotics Police (CNP) has seized 5kg heroin, over 7kg morphine, 1039kg opium, 2681kg hashish, 602kg liters of chemical and 16kg crystal from the aforementioned convicted drug runners, mentioned the statement.
At the same period, CNP arrested 23 drug traffickers during operations in different provinces.
Out of 23 drug traffickers, six of them were those smugglers that planned smuggling drugs through Hamid Karzai International Airport to India, who had been caught red-handed.
Statement said that after examining the evidences and arguments from both sides, the CJTF courts convicted the accused traffickers.
All the convicted drug traffickers would have defense attorneys for their legal defense and would be convicted after separate judicial trials based on the evidence brought before the court and the Counter Narcotics Law of Afghanistan.
