AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Roughly 29 militants were killed in military operation carried out by the Afghan security forces in southern Helmand province.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that most of the areas of Sangin district were cleared of insurgents in the operation.
The source said that 24 insurgents were killed and six others wounded in the operation.
Five other Taliban militants were killed in Musa Qala and Bughran districts during the operation, the source added.
The source said that 22 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were recovered and defused by the Afghan security forces.
The Operation Zulfiqar operation was started three days back as a decisive blow to maintain law-and-order in the province.
The operation is independently run by the Afghan National Army. This operation is reportedly one of the biggest military operations run independently by Afghan forces.
