AT-KABUL: At least 30 Taliban insurgents including a commander were killed and 17 others wounded in different operations launched by the security forces within the past 24 hours across the county, security officials said on Sunday.
The national army with the cooperation of the national police and the national directorate of security operatives, conducted clearance operations against insurgents in different areas of Nangarhar, Paktia, Logar, Khost, Ghazni, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Badghis, Herat, Farah, Faryab, Kunduz, and Helmand provinces, the defense ministry said in a statement.
In these operations, 30 Taliban insurgents including commander, Mullah Besmellah were killed and 17 others injured, it said. According to statement, five insurgents were arrested during the operations.
Separately, border police seized 9.310 Kilograms of ammonium nitrate, a key component used to make improvised explosive devices in a truck coming from Pakistan, ministry of interior said.
“Ammonium nitrate was placed in a Pakistani truck transporting it to Afghanistan while the police stopped the truck and searched it at Torkham crossing point where they found the ammonium nitrate,” ministry said in a statement.
“The truck driver was arrested in connection with the case.”
