KABUL: At least 44 Taliban insurgents were killed and 20 others wounded during crackdowns carried out by the Afghan security forces in different provinces within past 24 hours.
Ministry of Defense (MoD) in a statement said that 23 Taliban militants were killed and five others wounded in Arghandab district of Kandahar.
They were planning to attack Afghan forces position when they were targeted by army forces, added statement.
Some 113 IEDs which were placed by the Taliban on public roads in Zherai, Arghandab and Maiwand district of the province were discovered and safely detonated by the Afghan forces, noted statement.
By discovering and detonating of mentioned IEDs lives of tens of civilians were saved.
Statement said that also Taliban attack pushed back in Baraki Barak district of Logar province.
Statement stated that six Taliban fighters including Qari Tahseen a commander of the group were killed and eight others wounded in the district.
Similar six insurgents were killed and four other wounded in Andar district of Ghazni during crackdown carried out by Afghan forces, mentioned in the statement.
On the other hand Taliban check point targeted by Afghan Air forces in Qabr-e-Haji Gulistan area in Kunduz-Takhar highway which as result six militants were killed and three others wounded in the area.
Also three Taliban were killed in Nerkh and Said Abad district of Maidan Wardak province in an air strike last night. They were planting IEDs on public roads, when they were targeted by air forces, said statement.
