KABUL: In series of surrendering, a group of 49 more fighters of Daesh loyalists have given up violence by laying down their arms in eastern Nangarhar province, ministry of defense Sunday.
A press statement issued by Ministry of Defense said that 49 more Daesh fighters, along 21 women and 43 children, have surrendered to the Afghan security forces in the province.
MoD said that in the past one month, over 1,000 Daesh fighters, including family members were surrendered to Afghan forces in the province.
Moreover, 10 Indian women and children – all members of families of Indian fighters, most of them from Kerala – are believed to be among those hundreds Daesh fighters who have recently surrendered in eastern Nangarhar province.
Over 1,000 people, including Islamic State (Daesh) fighters and members of their families and a majority of them Pakistani nationals, have surrendered to Afghan security forces in the past weeks.
The surrenders occurred in the eastern province of Nangarhar, where the Afghan national security forces are conducting operations against the Daesh. Hours after the operation was launched on November 12, a total of 93 Daesh members, including 13 Pakistani nationals, laid down their arms, they said.
These numbers of Daesh foreign fighters included as Pakistani, Tajikistani, Uzbekistani, Iranian, Azerbaijani, Kazakhstani and Maldives who were surrendered to the Afghan forces as a result of military pressures carried out in different districts of the province.
