KABUL: At least 50 Taliban rebels, including a key commander of the group were killed and eight others wounded during latest crackdowns carried out by the Afghan security forces in southern Helmand province in the past 24 hours.
Ministry of Defense on Saturday said that 50 Taliban fighters, including three mine planters of the group were killed and eight others wounded during clashes by the Afghan security forces supported by air forces in Nawa, Garmsir, Nadali districts and Sorgodar and Boshran areas of Lashkargah city of the province.
According to the ministry’s statement, a Taliban key commander Abdul Salam was also among the killed fighters. Earlier the killed commander was Taliban’s shadow-district chief for Kajaki district, the statement added.
Eight Taliban’s strongholds, with some weapons, ammunition and vehicles destroyed during operations, the statement noted.
These crackdowns have taken place by the Afghan security forces through active defense posture against Taliban attacks in the province, mentioned in the statement.
