AT-KABUL: At least 54 Taliban fighters have been killed in infighting in western Herat province, said a local official.
Ehsanullah Hayat, spokesman for the provincial governor office, told Afghanistan Times that some 54 militants have been killed in fighting between two rival groups of the Taliban insurgents in Shindand district of Herat province. He said that the fighting between the militants started the other day morning. “More than 40 other rebels haven wounded during the clashes,” Hayat added.
He said that clashes are still ongoing in the district.
Abdul Rauf Ahmadi confirmed the infighting and said that the militants from both sides were using AK 47, PK machine gun and RPG rockets.
According to reports, the militant groups belonged to the main faction of the Taliban under the leadership of Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansoor and the splinter group led by Mullah Abdul Rasoul.
