AT-KABUL: At least fifty-eight Taliban insurgents were killed and sixteen others wounded in different operations lunched by security forces across the country within past 24 hours, security officials said on Tuesday.
In astatement issued here,the Ministry of Defense (MoD), said that the Afghan National Army in collaboration with Afghan National Police and National Directorate of Security operatives had conducted a joint operations against insurgents in different area of Ghazni, Paktia, Kandahar, Herat, Takhar, Baghlan, Kunduz, Sar-i-Pul, Jowzjan, Balkh and Helmand provinces, in which 58 insurgents including three commanders were killed and 26 others injured
In addition to that, 16 insurgents including head of military commission of the Taliban group were arrested during the raids.
Unfortunately, eleven soldiers were also killed during clashes, the statement lamented.
Separately, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives have seized a huge cache of explosives materials in north-eastern Kapisa province, the agency said in a statement.
“Four suicide vests, 200 kg of explosives, nine Improvised Explosive Device (IED), 86 rounds of mortar, 20 rounds of 82mm rockets, 3 BM1 rockets, seven hand grenades, four RPG7 rockets, 580 explosives capsules, 800 meters of explosives belt, and thousands rounds of ammunition of different type were recovered and confiscated during raid,” the statement added.
However, NDS did not provide further details regarding number of individual arrested in the operation.
Recently, the Taliban insurgents making all-out efforts to carry a large scale attacks in different districts of the country, including Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan.
Despite, a sharp increase in militant attacks, the Afghan security forces are fighting them (insurgents) with a great intention. Security forces defeated Taliban in their several complex attacks in several districts of the province. The good example is when Taliban attacked Khanabad district of Helmand province, but security forces gave them tit-for-tat response and recaptured the district in less than 24 hours.
According to provincial officials, 38 Taliban insurgents were killed in the clearing operation in the district.
