60 militants killed in crackdowns

KABUL: At least 60 Taliban militants have been killed and 10 others wounded in multiple extensive military crackdowns carried out by the Afghan security forces across the country in the past 24 hours, security officials said Sunday.

Ministry of Defense in a statement said the Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personal conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Samangan, Ghazni, Urzgan, Farah, Balkh, Paktia and Helmand provinces, in which 60 militants were killed and 10 others wounded.

Afghan security forces also arrested four militants and handed them over to the judicial organs for further inquiry.

Afghan National Defense and Security Forces shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.

During these operations, 17 insurgents were killed and three others wounded in Dara Suf district of Samanagan—16 Taliban militants killed, three others wounded, four arrested, six vehicles and nine motorbikes destroyed in Andar and Ab-Band districts of Ghazni—nine rebels killed, three others wounded and four rounds of IEDs discovered and defused in Trenkut capital of Urzgan—five insurgents killed in Khak-e Safid district of Farah province.

Similarly, five Taliban fighters were killed in Kuhenda district of Balkh—four insurgents killed and one vehicle of the enemy destroyed in Khoshamand district of Paktika—four rebels killed and another wounded in Nad Ali and Sangin districts of Helmand province. 

In past 24 hours, 19 planed clearing operations, and Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air Forces conducted aerial operations supporting Afghan National Army including 20 strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.
