KABUL: As intensive military operations to suppress the Taliban fighters have been in full-swing in the western part of Afghanistan, a local official in Ghor province have informed of surrendering of around 70 Taliban militants.
Provincial Governor, Ghulam Nassir Khazi said the surrendered militants were strongly activated in Jalga-e-Mazar, Sar-e-Tangi and Sar-e-Jangal districts of the province. “The militants, led by Seraj, Gull Agha, and Rais Mohammad have handed their weapons to the Afghan security forces by renouncing insurgency.”
Earlier, another Taliban group, compromised of 100 members has given up violence and joined the peace process.
The attacks come at a time, while according to some sources, the US and Taliban are close to sign a peace deal that would end the US almost two decades war in Afghanistan. The Afghan government has been sidelined of the negotiations so far, which is going on between the US top negotiator, Zalmay Khalilzad and Taliban delegation, led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar- the co-founder of the Taliban group in Doha, the capital city of Qatar.
