AT-KABUL: At least 70 worshipers were “martyred” and 55 others injured Friday evening in two separate suicide attacks against mosques in capital Kabul and western Ghor province, officials said.
In western Ghor province a suicide bomber at 5:00pm targeted worshipers inside the Khwajagan village mosque in Dulayna district of the province. The bombing left 31 people “martyred” and 10 others injured, Ghor Police Spokesman, Iqbal Nezami told Afghanistan Times.
Apparently the target of the attack was local uprising commander Fazal Ahamd, who was among the killed ones along with his several armed men.
Just 30 minutes after the first attack another suicide bomber detonated his explosive laden vest inside the Imam Zaman mosque among the worshipers, who were offering evening prayers in the mosque in PD 13th west of Kabul city in Dasht-i-Barchi.
According to Interior Ministry 39 people including women and children were “martyred” and 45 other were injured in this attack.
President Ashraf Ghani in a statement condemned the “terrorist attacks” in “strongest terms” and called the attacks an attempt by terrorists to “divide” the united Afghan people.
Ghani emphasized the terrorist groups will not succeed to achieve their “evil goals” to fuel sectarian unrests in the country and vowed the country’s security forces will “defeat and eliminate” these terrorist groups, who “deserve to be eliminated.”
