KABUL: At least 71 Taliban militants were killed and 41 others were wounded during latest crackdowns carried out by the Afghan security forces in different provinces across the country in the past 24 hours, defense ministry said on Saturday.
The Afghan security forces supported by the Afghan Air Forces conducted operations in Jalawar and Tabin villages of Arghandab district in southern Kandahar province, in which 18 Taliban insurgents were killed, the ministry said in a statement.
Moreover, 13 rounds of mines were also discovered and confiscated.
Also, the Afghan security forces targeted a Taliban car bomber and prevented a bloody incident in the district, the statement added.
According to the statement, Afghan Air Forces targeted a Taliban gathering in Sarchekan village of Grezwan district in northern Faryab province, in which 26 Taliban fighters, including three key members identified as Qari Mujib Rahman Arab, Mullah Attaullah the groups’ red unit commander and Qari Shakib were killed.
Another, 33 Taliban militants were wounded.
According to the statement, 16 other insurgents were killed during raids in Nasye district of northern Badakhshan province.
Similarly, nine Taliban fighters, including three commanders of the group were killed and eight others were wounded during raids conducted by Afghan security forces in Dand-e-Shahbudin district of northern Baghlan province, the statement mentioned.
Enough weapons and ammunition were also destroyed during the crackdowns in the aforementioned provinces, the statement concluded.
