AT-KABUL: Law enforcement agencies have arrested 77 people, including five women in connection of drug-related crimes in the past one month, authorities said Tuesday.
In a press statement, Criminal Justice Task Forces (CJTS), said that 77 smugglers had been detained by Counternarcotics Police in different crackdowns carried out in various provinces.
They have been handed over the CJTF for further criminal proceedings.
“Five women, and an Iranian citizen are among detainees of drug runners,” the statement said.
Out of 77 smugglers, 19 of them were arrested in multiple crackdowns in Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, who by placing heroin in their abdomen planned to transfer it to India, the statement added.
Investigation is ongoing over dossier of the all indicts by the CJTF, which after examining the evidences and arguments from both sides the CJTF would convict the accused traffickers. “And the remained 58 drug traffickers arrested from different provinces in the past one month.”
According to statement, Kabul, Kandahar and Helmand provinces have been on the top of smuggling attempt that have been thwarted.
Some 133.33 kg heroin, over 378.533kg opium, 305kg hashish, 31kg chemical, 25kg crystal, 235 liters acid and 30 tablets of K discovered and seized from the arrested smugglers, statement noted.
All the convicted drug traffickers would have defense attorneys for their legal defense and would be convicted after separate judicial trials based on the evidence brought before the court and the Counternarcotics law of Afghanistan.
On the other hand, CJTF primary and appeal court had convicted 62 drug dealers from one to 16 years of prison.
It is worth mentioning that 92 drug traffickers, including six women and an Iranian citizen were arrested in previous month by counternarcotics police and handed over to CJTF for prosecution.
