7th Death Anniversary of Marshal Fahim Marked in Kabul

Karzai Calls Marshal Fahim a “Great Patriot”

AT News

KABUL: Former President Hamid Karzai in an event marking the 7th anniversary of the death of Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim on Monday said that Marshal Fahim was a “great patriot” who always stood beside his people and worked for the welfare of the Afghans.

Former President Hamid Karzai narrated a memory of himself with Marshal Fahim as: We (Him and Marshal Fahim) were building the country of nothing, there were lots of things; the ideological difference, different ideas… but he was always seeking unity, and good well for the Afghan nations. Karzai called Marshal Fahim a patriot who always stood beside his people.

The ceremony was attended by the top Afghan politicians, including Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, the Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, Vice Presidents and a large number of political leaders.

Referring to the Vice President Amrullah Saleh’s remarks, Karzai said that there were some disagreements “I and my deputies on a very crucial national issue but it has never been leaked to the media and we resolved it – because it was a matter of national interests.”

Talking about the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken’s letter to President Ashraf Ghani, Mr. Saleh, who was also participating in the ceremony, said that Afghans didn’t accept “dictated-peace.”

Blinken in a letter to Ghani suggested a new proposal to accelerate the peace efforts. He said that Washington would ask the United Nations to convene foreign ministers and envoys from Russian, China, Iran, India, Pakistan and the United States to discuss a unified breakthrough in support for peace in Afghanistan. According to the letter, the US would urge Turkey to host a conference of both sides to finalize a peace deal within next week.

“The documents will enable the Islamic Republic and the Taliban to move urgently to the tasks of developing a) the foundational principles that will guide Afghanistan’s future constitutional and governing arrangements, b) a roadmap to a new, inclusive government; and c) the terms of a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire,” Blinken wrote in the letter.

But VP Saleh suggested that it was “our right not to deal” with the destiny of 35 million people.

Peace is necessary but “we want a dignified peace”, Saleh said. “We are neither concerned about the letter nor will change our positions.”

Ghani’s Political and Security Advisor, Mohammad Mohaqiq said that the Afghans would make their own decision regarding the peace process and that a “dictated-language and dictate-peace is impossible”.

He said that there is no change in the Taliban’s stance. “We have a system, troops, human rights and constitution, then why should we join the Taliban?” Mohaqiq asked.

Afghanistan has given birth to numerous heroes and champions of its outskirt that recorded their name with golden lines in history. These champions that rose among the various ethnic in the country have bravely fought to protect their people and country from the enemies.

When the Soviet Union entered in Afghanistan in 1979, the Afghans stood against the Red Army and fought them- even though they lacked access to modern weapons and ammunition to fight the then great Red Army. But such a war against such a great army needed to be led by brave and professional commanders. The Afghans fighting against the Soviet Union then were called Mujahideens divided into several parties led by top influential figures. Although the Mujahideens succeeded a victory over the Red Army and its backed government in Kabul, they engaged into fighting each other that left thousands of people killed and wounded.
