Kabul: The spokesman of the Kabul Police Command, Khalid Zadran, said a blast occurred in the Sarkariz area of Kabul’s PD6. He said that a bomb attached to a handcart has exploded, killing eight people and 18 others were injured.
The Islamic State (IS) militant group has claimed responsibility for the blast on Friday in a Shi’ite residential area in the western section of Afghanistan’s capital city of Kabul.
Muslims in Afghanistan are currently commemorating the first 10 days of the Islamic month of Muharram, culminating in Ashura, which marks the martyrdom of the revered Imam Hussein Ibn Ali, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.
The number of violent public attacks across the country has fallen since the Taliban returned to power in August last year, but ISIS has continued to conduct attacks across country.
