KABUL: Ninety-four Islamic State (IS) fighters, which is also known as Daesh terrorist group have been killed in Thursday evening bombing of GBU43/B, by US forces in Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Saturday.
Governor spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News that Daesh based situated in the area was completely destroyed in the world largest non-nuclear bomb strike. “Notorious Daesh commander were also among killed rebel.”
He also informed that three tunnels use by Daesh militant and reservoirs of weapons and other equipment were also destroyed in the attack.
The slain Daesh leaders’ brother Hamza and other commanders including Abubakar, Mohammad Abrani and other commanders had been eliminated in the US strike.
The provincial spokesman said that civilian received no casualties in the attack.
Daesh, however, denied suffering casualties from the US military’s largest non-nuclear bomb which hit its mountain hideouts in eastern Nangarhar province, read a statement from the Daesh Amaq propaganda agency on Saturday.
“Security source to Amaq agency denies any dead or wounded from yesterday’s America strike in Achin district’s Asadkhelo village using a GBU-43/b,” the group’s self-styled news agency said on social media accounts.
Moreover, the US bombing has been met with mixed reactions by Afghans. Some of Kabul residents believe that US forces had step up efforts to fight insurgents, while some others believes it was just a show off.
“This is a good news for Afghan people that the US carried out such an attack to eliminate Daesh, Taliban and other militant outfits,” said Dorm Mohammad, a Kabul resident.
Another resident said that if America wants to stop the war in Afghanistan, peace would come to the country with 24 hours. However, others said that US is not sincere in fight against insurgency.
“The US think of their own goals and the bombing in reality was carried out against Russian,” Zahir, another resident said. American has come here to test its weapons, another resident said. While some residents criticized the move and condemned the US’s actions, saying foreign forces should target insurgent strongholds outside the country.
