AT-KABUL: The National Directorate of Security (NDS) has foiled a coordinated suicide attack on the Kandahar provincial government compound.
The provincial administration on Wednesday said the spy agency arrested two suspected terrorists and thwarted the terror bid.
The two suspected terrorists were arrested during a raid by the NDS operatives. The terrorists were identified as Lal Mohammad who is a native of Panjwai district of Kandahar province and Abdul Wali who is a resident of Zherai district. The officials said the two militants were trying to detonate an explosives-filled rickshaw in front of the government compound.
According to the provincial officials, the suspected insurgents were under command of the Taliban commander Mullah Bozorg. They were involved in terrorist activities in Kandahar city and on Kandahar-Helmand highway.
The Taliban had not commented yet.
Kandahar is one of the insecure provinces in the country from where the Taliban emerged in 2001 and spread to the whole country.
