AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: To his first official visit, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with a high profile government delegation is expected to travel to Kabul soon.
According to Indian media, Kabul and New Delhi are discussing a suitable date for the visit of the Indian Primer Modi.
Since PM Modi had taken office in 2014, this would be his first visit to Kabul. India is a time-tested friend of Afghanistan and their long decade of friendship is promising.
Soon after Afghanistan was hit by the earthquake, MP Narendra Modi not only expressed his deepest condolences over the loss of lives and damages, but he also offered assistance to the affected families.
India is also playing crucial role in Afghanistan’s development following collapse of the Taliban regime in 2001. Since 2002, the India government stands beside Afghanistan and committed two billion US dollars to the socio-economic rebuilding of the Afghan state and society in accordance with the development priorities of the Afghan government.
This is worth mentioning that the Salma Dam project, renamed to “Afghan-India Friendship Dam”, is underway in western Herat province which will incur a cost of around $300 million.
Deputy Foreign Minister, Hekmat Khalil Karzai, when he was in India last month said that discussion already made with the Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar and other Indian officials for the preparations and requirements for the visit.
