AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Unidentified gunmen have gunned down a female polio worker and injured another in southern Kandahar province, said officials on Monday.
According to the provincial governor’s spokesman, Samim Khpalwak, the incident took place on Monday morning in the fourth police jurisdiction of Kandahar city, the provincial capital.
He said that unknown gunmen opened fire on two of the female polio workers, killing one on the spot and injured another. He said the wounded female was shifted to the nearby hospital. According to the doctors in the hospital, the injured female is in critical condition.
The gunmen escaped the scene but the police have launched an investigation to bring the culprits to the books.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
This comes about two and a half months after a female worker of the United Nations was gunned down in the same police district of the city.
