AT-KABUL: A US soldier was killed and two others wounded in a joint operation launched in Helmand province, Pentagon said.
Afghan security forces are fighting the Taliban insurgents in Sangin, Marjah and Lashakar Gah districts of Helmand. Afghan security forces are backed by the US-led coalition forces in some areas to defeat the militants and regain control over the Taliban-dominated areas.
An official at the Pentagon, who wished anonymity, said that the US soldier was killed in a joint operation, adding that ASF also suffered casualties. However, he did not provide further details.
He said that two helicopters were sent to the area to shift the injured troops to the hospital, but one of the choppers hit a wall and could not fly.
According to the press secretary of Pentagon, Peter Kok, the helicopters could not go and land in the area due to heavy fighting.
He said that they could not provide more details about the casualties as the fighting is continued.
