AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Ministry of Communication and Information Technology’s spokesman Yasin Samim said that Kabul would buy internet services from Iran as it’s cheap and reliable.
“Kabul and Tehran signed a contract according to which Afghanistan would pay $105,000 for each 10 Gigabyte to Iran for internet services,” Samim told IRNA. Currently Afghanistan is paying $250,000 for 10 Gigabyte.
He furthered that as a result of entering the internet markets in the country, gateways would be created in Herat, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Kabul and Mazar-e-Sharif for people to have access to internet and the price would fall by 20 to 25 percent.
“We pay $135,000 for each 10 Gigabyte of internet services from Kazakhstan,” he said.
Furthermore, he termed low quality and high internet charge and completely dependent on Pakistan as a major impediment ahead of Afghanistan’s access to internet services. Hinting to the contract he said that transmission of internet services from Iran would put an end to the internet problem in the country.
