AT-KABUL: The Meshrano Jirga or Senate on Sunday session asked the government to immediately appoint a new mayor for Kabul city.
Senator Farhad Sakhi told members of the Meshrano Jirga that there was no person to be held responsible for the uncertainty of the Kabul city.
“Since acting mayor was fired two weeks ago, now there is no responsible person to address the problems of Kabul citizens,” he said.
Mohammad Yunus Nawandesh had resigned last year as a Kabul mayor. His deputy became acting mayor of Kabul, but he was dismissed two weeks ago.
Nisar Haris, a senator from Kabul, said that a Kabul resident should be appointed as new mayor.
While criticizing the government for being failed to appoint a suitable person as Kabul mayor, he said that Kabul people would come on streets if non-Kabul resident was appointed as mayor.
Chairman of the Meshrano Jirga, Fazl Hadi Muslimyar, also asked the government to appoint a Kabul resident as a new mayor. Without going into the detail, he said that three professional persons were introduced to the Presidential Palace and probably one of them would be appointed as Kabul mayor.
