Peace talks: Govt to welcome all armed groups except foreign terrorists

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The second round of quadrilateral meeting between representatives of Afghanistan, Pakistan, the United States and China is scheduled to be held on Monday (today) in Kabul.

The first round of talks between the four countries was held in Islamabad, aimed at establishing a roadmap on resumption of peace talks between Afghan government and the Taliban.

Deputy Spokesman for the Chief Executive Office, Javed Faisal, said that the second round would shed lights on a roadmap how to resume peace talks with the Taliban. The first round of the face-to-face peace talks with the Taliban was stalled soon after the death report of their longtime leader, Mullah Omar, was confirmed.

Faisal added that the quadrilateral meeting would yield positive results as the American and Chinese officials were participating in the meeting. “Second round of the quadrilateral meeting is scheduled for Monday [today] in Kabul,” he said, adding that Afghanistan is looking for implementation of peace pledges made by Pakistan.

“Leaving foreign insurgents, the Afghan government is ready to hold talks with all armed opponents,” Faisal said, adding that all resource would be utilized to restore peace and stability.

The deputy spokesman indirectly said that the peace talks would not include the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, Daesh, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Chechen and Arab terrorists because they are foreigners.

In a joint statement after the quadrilateral meeting, the four parties backed Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace and reconciliation process on a basis of gaining durable peace and stability not only in Afghanistan but also in the region.

Recently, Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmad Shekib Mustaghani said that Afghanistan is expecting positive outcomes.

Hinting to the commitments made by the four countries in the meeting, he said that positive outcomes from the talks are expected in the second round of the meeting to be held in Kabul on Monday (today). He also assured that Kabul is ready to host the second round of the peace talks.
