KABUL: The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) condemns today’s suicide attack in Jalalabad that killed 13 civilians and injured 14 others.
A suicide attacker detonated his explosive device inside a civilian residence during a gathering of tribal elders.
UNAMA reiterates that civilians may never be deliberately targeted in any location. Such attacks are explicitly prohibited under international humanitarian law.
The mission reminds all parties to the armed conflict in Afghanistan that they are bound to uphold their legal obligations to at all times to avoid harm to civilians.
The mission extends its sincere condolences to the families of those killed and a speedy recovery for those injured. UNAMA once again affirms its continued support to the people of Afghanistan. (Press Release)
