AT-KABUL: A large number of Taliban militants were killed and injured during an operation launched by the security forces Tuesday night in southern Helmand province, an official said Wednesday.
“The operation was launched with cooperation of NATO air force in Gereshk, Marjah, Sangin and Khanshin districts in which different types of weapons and munitions were seized,” said Esmatullah Dawlatzai, a police official in the province.
Taliban have earlier threatened to capture Marjah, Sangin and Gereshk districts.
Taliban insurgents claimed heavy fighting in the area, but Esmatullah Dawalatzai denied the claim and said: “They are baseless threats.”
