AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Five alleged Pakistani spies, who disguised themselves as medical doctors and nurses, were arrested by the Afghan security forces in the northeastern Badakhshan province, local officials said.
The arrested spies included two men and three women were working in hospitals in Baharak and Kheshm districts of the province, local officials added.
Provincial Police Chief, Ghulam Sakhi Ghafoori, said that according to their information it showed that the arrested Pakistanis were providing information to the Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The five arrested spies were handed over to the Attorney General’s Office, he said, adding that the spies were arrested in cooperation with the National Directorate of Security (NDS).
Provincial Director of Public Health, Noor Khawari said that it was not the first time that they had uncovered the spies but in the past several Pakistani nationals in Kheshm and Baharak districts of the province were arrested.
Neither they are doctors nor nurses, he said, referring to the arrest of five Pakistani spies.
They entered Afghanistan illegally, he said, adding that they don’t have educational documents as well.
The interference of ISI in internal affairs of Afghanistan is like an open book. In every corner of the country one can simply see the involvement of ISI aimed at destabilizing the situation. It was also accused of supporting different militant factions in the country to prolong the war, a security official told Afghanistan Times on the condition of anonymity.
The Afghan government should put crippling pressure on Pakistan to put an end to its involvement in the country. Pakistan must go by its commitments recently made in the third round of Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG), the official said.
Addressing the QCG, Pakistan’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaj Aziz said that his country supports stable and prosperous Afghanistan. He furthered that political reconciliation is the most viable option for promoting long-term peace and stability in Afghanistan.
